Culture in Renchtal

Renchtal does not only have the beautiful nature of the Black Forest, it is also home to cultural heritage. In wine town Oberkirch with its historical city center, you will find lots of fruit trees and vinyards and in the summer time a culinary wine walk is organised. The 500-year-old, late Gothic Maria Coronation pilgrimage church is an important site in the pilgrimage town of Lautenbach. In the historic town of Oppenau you will find the ruins of the All Saints monastery, here you can enjoy a holiday with the whole family on one of the numerous farms. Clim the Buchkopfturm, that offers fantastic views towards the Black Forest mountains and across the plains of the Rhine.

Hike in Achertal

Achertal is also located in the Black Forests and consists of Kappelrodeck/Waldulm, Ottenhöfen and Seebach/Mummelsee. The mild climate means the meadows and fruit trees blossom very early and in a gorgeous array of colour, this makes it a great place to visit in spring. In Ottenhöfen you'll encounter lots of mill hiking trails and the Edelfrauengrab waterfalls, you can also dive into a nature swimming pool. Kappelrodeck is the place for so-called liquor-trails. Seebach/Mummelsee is home to the highest mountain of the northern Black Forest and premium hiking trails like Bosensteiner Almpfad.

Flowers and baroque on a subtropical island

Mainau Island, the botanic garden in Lake Constance, offers nature experiences 365 days a year. The island has botanical gardens, a palatial baroque ensemble and a 150 years old arboretum. Here you can admire subtropical flowers and hundreds of rhododendrons, scented roses, perennials and colourful dahlias. Plus of course: one of Germany’s largest butterfly houses. This year several festivals will be organised, like the Gräfliches Inselfest where seventy (inter)national experts will present the trends in lifestyle and gardening. As of midst October the island transforms into a winter garden.

Northern Black Forest

Forest, meadows, thermal baths, cosy traditional hiking huts and culinaire delights. This can all be found in the Nördlicher Schwarzwald, a region that was declared a sustainable destination. Enjoy a climate neutral 'joyride' or visit one of the fifteen restaurants that cook with local ingredients because of their motto to 'preserve nature with fork & knife'. In this area you can spend the night in a wellness hotel, nature camping or traditional country side hotel. Slow food is daily business: pick your own 'blue gold' on the twelve kilometer long blueberry trail. Adventurers explore the Baumwipfelfpad.

Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim

Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim is located between Karlsruhe and Stuttgart and is devoted to the history of jewellery. Some 2000 exhibits, including an extensive ring collection, reveal the vast diversity of jewellery over five thousand years. From Jugendstil/Art Nouveau to a Collection of Ethnographic Jewellery from Oceania and the Indian Nagaland. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum shows as well objects from the Taiwanese goldsmith and sculptor Ruan Weng Mong and artist Max Ernst (1891-1976), that was created with the support of Sammlung Würth.

Subtropisch eiland Mainau

Mainau is een eiland in het Constancemeer (ook wel Bodenmeer) met botanische tuinen, een barok paleis dat omringd is door citrusbomen en een arboretum met een 150 jaar oude verzameling van bomen. Je kunt er subtropische bloemen bekijken, struinen door de tuinen vol rododendrons, rozen en dahlia’s en ‘s lands grootste vlindertuin bezoeken. Dit jaar staat het eiland in het teken van 'Bloeiend water en drijvende tuinen' en is een bezoek tot 24 oktober mogelijk. In samenwerking met studenten is 'WASSERleben' ontwikkeld: een watertuin waar de betekenis van regen bewust ervaren kan worden.

Mediterraans Lörrach

Vanaf het bekende Rötteln kasteel, een van de grootste reünies in Baden-Württemberg, heb je uitzicht over de stad Lörrach. Gelegen tussen het Zwarte Woud, Basel en de Alsace vind je hier het Dreiläendermuseum (Drielandenmuseum). Naast klassieke kunst en muziek (te vinden in de Burghof), vind je in het centrum Lörrach de Skulpturenweg (sculptuurroute), graffiti en street art. De relaxte, Mediterraanse lifestyle van de regio is hier goed vertegenwoordigd met talloze cafés, brouwerijen méet biertuin en een boerenmarkt.

Pforzheim, niet alleen als startpunt

Pforzheim, bekend als de gouden stad en het centrum van juwelen en horlogerie, ligt tussen Karlsruhe en Stuttgart in het noorden van het Zwarte Woud. Deze centrale ligging maakt het een goed startpunt voor een trip naar de natuur. Bezoek een van de musea zoals het Pforzheim Schmuck Museum, waar je een uiteenzetting vindt van ruim twee duizend objecten die vijf duizend jaar geschiedenis laten zien van uiteenlopende wereldwijde stijlen. Of wandel door het centrum met de 'Future History App', waar de geschiedenis tot leven komt met behulp van augmented reality.
