The region of Telemark, known from the Telemark canal, built a breathtaking sauna complex with the goal to let people rediscover this region. The complex brings Northern mythology and architecture together and stimulates detourism.

Re-discovery project Tales of Norway

The Soria Moria Sauna is part of a big project that is focused on the touristic rediscovery of the Telemark area and the Telemark canal that is 105 kilometers long. In different initiatives, named Tales of the waterway, the area has been put back on the map through architecture, art and light. There are six projects on the planning of the architectural firm Freste for now.

Soria Moria Sauna

The spectacular sauna is inspired by an old Nordic fairytale about a golden palace in the mountains. Local building techniques and blanc wood have been used, and the golden glow represents the golden palace. In the Soria Moria Sauna you will find a sauna of course, but also a dressing room and a panoramic view of the lake. You can reach the complex through a wooden path that is integrated in the existing hiking network along the lake.
